Naked Hungry Traveller

Why are we Naked?

We created Naked Hungry Traveller because we wanted somewhere to publish what we really honestly truly think about travel. We're professionals with a conscience.

Naked is Good

Naked means bereft of unwanted inhibitions, editorial restrictions and advertorial expectations.

Naked Hungry Travellers view the world and its wonders with open minds. We're an experienced group of writers and photographers that considers travelling the great mind and eye opener. We believe in sustainable travel and tourism. We believe in the principle: Leave Behind Small Footprints. We believe that the world is shrinking, that its natural resources are limited and should be treated as our most valuable possessions. We believe in telling the truth about what we experience. We respect our readers and their ability to cut through the cant and claptrap that pervades travel press. We believe that travel is never boring. We believe that life's too short for bad food, bad wine, bad coffee or bad anything actually.

Call us roving gourmands with a pilgrim's conscience, if you will. Surely, we've been called worse.

Ethics and Editorial

In addition to our independent travel, the Naked Hungry Travellers do accept sponsored trips. Let's not make a big deal out of this and we know a few people do. Without sponsored travel we could never cover the breadth and depth of travel experiences as we do. NHT contributors are professional journalists who take their craft seriously and reserve the right to make critical comments when appropriate. Naked Hungry Traveller has the freedom to publish genuine editorial opinion and encourage our contributors to have a strong voice in their work. We give favour to the destinations, companies and people who really make an impression. And we're not easily impressed.

If the story doesn't add up for us then the story doesn't run on our site. We started NHT because we wanted a place to publish travel stories that genuinely inform and hopefully entertain the travelling public. You'll find opinions here that you won't find elsewhere.

Experience is Everything

Naked Hungry Travellers are travel journalists providing an informed opinion. We're not bloggers, we do this for a living. We're not students, we've spent years doing this for a living. We're not sports writers, this is everything we do for a living. We can't be swayed by fancy cocktails and subsidised holidays. We don't re-write press releases and we don't crush the word-count on articles to make room for another advertisment. Our words are very personal for us and we mean what we say. That's really the point of NHT. We want to share our most naked thoughts with you. Some good, some sassy, sometimes sour, often sweet. That's life.

Vanuatu's Tanna Island combines an active volcano with an active cult, a strange combination on an otherworldly island far from everywhere.

Business travellers heading for India will find themselves entering an evolving state. Ancient traditions strive to combine with western sensibilities creating a hodge-podge of mixed morals, attitudes and behaviour.

The sensational headlines about troubles in Bangkok have made this a lean year for tourism in Thailand. Bangkok is bouncing back to its normal levels of friendly chaos, and the locals are keen to welcome back all travellers.

There’s been enough written about how integrated the tango is into Buenos Aires culture that it’s become an unavoidable travel cliché. Quite simply, if you’re in Buenos Aires, you will encounter tango. So you may as well accept the fact and see it at its best.
